    • McClain re-signed with the Cowboys on...

McClain re-signed with the Cowboys on Wednesday on a one-year, $3 million contract, Drew Davidson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports.

Analysis: McClain was able to resurrect his career while joining the Cowboys for training camp last season, ultimately winning the starting middle linebacker job and finishing second on the team in tackles (108) over his 13 games. The Cowboys had prepared for McClain's potential departure by inking veterans Jasper Brinkley and Keith Rivers to deals, but they're slated to serve as depth in the linebacking corps with McClain being retained. McClain was limited by knee and groin injuries in addition to a concussion last season, but should be fully healthy heading into the 2015 campaign.

    • Though he hasn't been cleared to...

Though he hasn't been cleared to run yet, Mathis (Achilles) said Tuesday that he expects to be ready for the beginning of training camp, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports 1 reports.

Analysis: The news comes just one week after Colts owner Jim Irsay suggested that Mathis likely wouldn't be back from the injury until November. There's still plenty of time between both training camp and the start of the regular season for Mathis' status to be further clarified, and more information should become available as he begins to engage in rehab activities over the next several weeks. Even if Mathis is able to recover in time for Week 1, it's difficult to imagine him having the same kind of impact as a pass rusher now that he'll be entering his age-34 season.

    • Rodgers signed a one-year deal with...

Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Bears on Tuesday.

Analysis: Rodgers could take on some of Matt Forte's third-down work as the Bears look to preserve their franchise running back for at least another season or two. This still isn't a good landing spot for Rodgers to establish value, as Forte led all NFL running backs in snaps in both 2013 and 2014. The Bears also have 2014 fourth-round draft pick Ka'Deem Carey, who could very well head into training camp ahead of Rodgers on the depth chart. Rodgers has never shown much promise in the running game, so it shouldn't be too surprising if he has to settle for the third spot on the depth chart and occasional third-down work.

    • Trusnik signed a one-year contract with...

Trusnik signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday.

Analysis: A former undrafted free agent, the 30-year-old linebacker has carved out a lengthy career in the NFL, due in large part to his work on special teams. The Panthers do have a possible opening to fill at one of their linebacker spots, and Trusnik could be part of a competition that would likely be led by A.J. Klein. Of course, with Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis locked into three-down roles, the Panthers can't support a third IDP option at linebacker.

    • Brown signed a one-year contract with...

Brown signed a one-year contract with the Colts on Tuesday and is expected to compete for the No. 4 wide receiver role, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

Analysis: A third-round draft pick back in 2011, Brown has never caught more than 41 passes in a season. Injuries have been part of the problem, but he also failed to take advantage of the opportunities that came his way. With T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson and Donte Moncrief assumed to be Indy's top three wideouts, Brown will compete with a group that includes Duron Carter and Griff Whalen for the fourth spot on the depth chart.
